This has been in the rumour mill for some time, and I believe Raimi may be set to direct. I would still prefer Jackson, but this is as good as it will get I imagine.

It's good that they are making Hobbit but I don't like 2 things:
1) making 2 movies - New line is out of cash
2) Sam Raimi is a bad director just look at spiderman3!

I must admit that I not enamoured with the thought of Raimi as the Director.
It kinda makes sense to make 2 films to cover the events of the hobbit. There's a lot in the book and I don't see how 1 film could do it justice.

I LOVE Lotr trilogy, and The Hobbit.I know liberties were taken by the writers in the movies but,I think the movies RULE!
In Elvish:Valandil Calafalas
In The Shire:Mungo Boffin of Needlehole.
I am really amped by my Elvish name.Later.
ROCK ON!

I thought Jackson was going to be directing The Hobbit, and it was going to be made into 2 films?
Hmm, this is really splitting me in two, I want to see the movie, but I can't imagine anyone but Jackson directing the film(s).
I also heard on TV recently that Ian McKellan was quoted as saying that he would come back as Gandalf?

Me too. Directing the LOTR would not seem feasible some years ago, but Jackson's movie was a particularly good attempt to transfer the story from the book to the big screen. All I want to say is that Jackson proved that he can do such a transfer, and I would feel relieved if I knew that he would direct the Hobbit

Why can I not get over this feeling that the Hobbit movie, without Jackson, is going to be the film equivalent of Mindcrime 2?

Oh, tolkien was a master. And i agree with those who say Jackson would do the hobbit justice.
Elf name : Uruviel Ancalime
Hobbit name : Lily Knotwise of Michel Delving

OK, whenever I come back to the forum one of the first things I do is bring the Tolkien thread back to page 1.
So I bought Children of Hurin right in time to start off my Tolkien holiday (the paperback version). I was glad that one of my favorite Tolkien stories finally has a book of its own and is not clustered in with all the other Unfinished Tales.
I finished it by Thanksgiving Day, in time to start reading LOTR.
I'm already halfway through The Two Towers, although I should probably pick up the pace since Christmas is 9 days away and I still have another book to polish off.

Children of Hurin is excellent!
I re-read Fellowship and Two Towers again earlier in the year. Still need to start Return though..

Well, I started ROTK yesterday and am already at the Pyre of Denethor chapter. I'm sure I'll be done for Christmas.
I was reading on Nightwish forum that it looks like PJ and crew will be involved in the making of the Hobbit movie, though he won't be directing it. Anyone else know more about this?
