If I remember correctly didn't they have a vote on their myspace for the next single? The last time I saw the voting "Survive" was in the lead by a longshot.... Must have changed fast, lol.

But I am interested to see the "I Like It" video and what concept they used for it. Hopefully it will be a little more interesting than "Spellbound".

I mean the performance version of it was way better than the story version; and the performance version didn't even have a point, lol, besides what was being sung.

I believe that the decision for the second single was made long before the album was released. As far as I recall, Survive won the poll, so will probably be the third single... which would be awesome. Ironic for a song called I Like It that no one seems to... like it.

Terrible, lame excuse for LC songs:
I'm Not Afraid
Underdog
Wide Awake (amazing intro but the rest is generic and boring)
Shallow Life

Does...not...compute...

Seriously, how does the chorus of Wide Awake not do anything for you? It's arguably the best part of the album (witholding the bonus songs). Shallow Life is, IMO, the 2nd best song...right behind Wide Awake (again, witholding the bonus songs). I'm Not Afraid and Underdog, though...yeah, you win on those; they're the weakest songs on the album easily.

Idk Wide Awake's lyrics are just so cliche and generic to me. Like a previous poster said, it sounds like a song Mariah Carey would sing, but not LC. It kinda sounds like the Ghost Woman and the Hunter but with less passion and more cheesiness...

As for Shallow Life, it reminds me too much of a Linkin Park ballad.

AxlResnor, have you seen my thread on I Like It by any chance? As of this post, almost 60% of the people who voted liked the song, 10% thought it alright, and 30% though it sucked. My point is, someone here likes I Like It. :) I will admit, though, that such a thing happening really surprised me.

Well you have to take into account that there are people that will vote 'I like it' for everything LC does even if they have their doubts. I remember my position about Karmacode when came out.

Hmm...you do have a point. Still, not all fans are like that...or, at least I think they're not... :?

So I just bought Shallow Life yesterday (I know, bad Fenton, bad!)... and after several times through, I must say, I like it. A lot.

There were several songs I liked right away, and others that have grown on me... there are, though, a couple that I'm still not sure if I like; but all in all, it's a really good album. Much better than Karmacode, in my opinion.

I recall at the beginning of this thread, Matt talking about how Andrea said there would be some old stuff mixed in with the new. I can definitely hear some of the older style making its way through these songs. There's quite a bit in this album that reminds me of Unleashed Memories: vocal harmonization, guitar riffs, general tones throughout songs. I was quite pleased by the incorporation.

Tracks that immediately jumped out at me: I Survive, Not Enough, I'm Not Afraid, I Like It, Spellbound, Wide Awake, and Oblivion.

I was surprised by Wide Awake, given that it has a pop ballad-type feel to it. It's the "lightest" LC song I think I've ever heard. Or at least it has that kind of feel to it. And I think I like it even more because of that. It's a great addition to their repertoire.

I'm not sure how I like the "dance" beats in I Won't Tell You and the beginning of Not Enough. It seems to work, though, with Not Enough, as I'm leaning towards calling Not Enough my favorite song on this album. Oblivion is giving it a run for its money, though.

Oblivion, along with Not Enough, remind me the most of older LC and, more specifically, Unleashed Memories. I'm forever thankful that they included Oblivion as a bonus track. Thank you!

I wish I could talk more about the musicality of the album... but that's not my forte. Rather, I tend to "feel" the music more and experience it through the emotions it evokes in me. It's worth noting that it's songs like those mentioned above that made me a Lacuna Coil fan in the first place, and are undoubtedly the reason I'll remain a fan for years to come.

I had heard Spellbound and I Like It, but not the others. (I know.. bad mod, bad!)

Also, I should add Underdog to the list of Awesomeness on the album.

 Criz kicks some serious ass on this track.

Yes!! I think he got to cut loose a little more on this album. Some of it reminds me of the stuff he did on In a Reverie, which is awesome.

I think Shallow Life is one of the better songs off of their album!

I suppose I'm biased because I prefer the doom-ier, darker, ethereal, melodious songs that remind me of Unleashed Memories. But it's more thoughtful. It's not written like a pop song with the chorus repeated a million times and about 10 other words to go with it.

I like Not Enough kind of. Andrea's voice is kind of weird on this album though. :/ Spellbound was decent. The album is generally was kind of...ehhh. well, I still love them, so maybe they'll redeem themselves in my book in 3 years!

I'm not sure how much of this is epic win and how much is epic fail, but it's looking like an entangled mix of the two :) .

Wait...just out of curiousity, how did you miss the whole "Shallow Life leaked on the band's Myspace for one whole week" thing?

EDIT: Holy crap, this is my 119th post. "I'm A Loser?" status? Win.

Some people just prefer to wait until they can get their hands on the actual CD before listening to it. Nothing wrong with that.

Congrats on being a loser. :D

I saw that it was on the myspace... I just wanted to wait. I was saving myself. :P
