For avatars 120x120 is a reasonable size.

There is no specific size for banners but 468x75 is a reasonable maximum.

I like it how it resizes avatars on this forum when i uploaded it in its huge size. i hate it on others when it says its too big keep resizing bla bla.

However, why isn't my banner showing? hmmmm :/

just a curiosity, Matt, - before using it- is there any problem if I use a little animated icon since I don't seem to see any of users using it.. I don't see anything on the rules about it, so I wanted to be sure it's all ok.

And everyone, use ImageReap.com to host your images.

This one gives you unlimited bandwidth for your pictures and users on Empty Spiral are allowed to hotlink larger images directly to the forum if needed/wanted. (You can also create a user to keep track on your pics)

Cheers! :)

PS. Check the banner to the lower left and you'll see a direct-link to the site.

Using an iframe could work out quite nicely. The thing is that it's not software written by yours truly, making a risk that the functions may stop working with an update etc.

hmmmm......... a javascript link to force a popup to load an iframe wouldn't be to bad an idea, would keep people on the site and encourage the use of imagereap as once the image is uploaded users get taken to the page with the image code to copy and paste all done within the iframed popup?

I guess what one could do (without looking too closely on the code) is to do a "limited" version of the page that is basically an upload field that then posts to a trimmed down result page where the link for the image is presented.

On the other hand, this could be as cumbersome as actually having the site in another tab.
