Judging from the questions that pop up in the forum every now and then, there's an interest in having an chatroom for ES members. A while back, Naz4viper set up a Lacuna Coil channel on IRC, but there's been some confusion how to connect to and use IRC chat, so I put together these instructions, hopefully this will help!

The easiest way to get on IRC is with a Java client, you just need a web browser and Java installed on your computer. To start the Java IRC client, click here. You may get a prompt to grant session to use the Java applet, click OK to continue.

Next you'll see the connect screen, you'll need to enter info as follows:

Nick Name: enter your ES ID or any other nickname you like
Channel: #lacunacoil
Real Name: enter any name you like
Server Name: jade.dal.net

Click "connect now", and you'll see a series of messages similar to "connecting to... please wait", wait 30-60 seconds for the connection to complete. That's it!

If you get a message "connection timed out", then click on the config button and re-enter the information above, but for the server name, use irc.dal.net

At this point you should be connected and can start chatting!

Java client is very basic though, so to take full advantage of IRC features (such as file sharing) you'll need a full IRC client, such as mIRC, which can be downloaded here. But Java should get you started, so give it a try to see how it works!

For more information, see IRC FAQ (you may want to read it to find out what IRC is all about).

Hafe fun chatting!

Glad to hear it's helpful! If takes a really long time to connect with jade.dal.net, you can try irc.dal.net server instead. Depending on your ISP, one server may be better then the orher. I have better luck connecting with jade.dal.net, but the other one may work better for you.
